DCG updates their North American Guide to Web Content Service Providers

The nice thing with friends in high places is the ability to see advanced copies of guides and books before they hit the public. Digital Clarity Group (DCG) has announced the immediate availability of an update to the North American edition of its popular Guide to Service Providers for Web Content and Customer Experience Management. Over the past few days, I've combed through the pages and remain as impressed with the guide as I was with its original release.

CMS and Marketing Automation: 5 Things to Remember When Considering Integration

These days, everyone in the industry is talking about the importance of making eCommerce and CMS work together. Rightfully so. But I see another hot topic on the horizon, a bridge of sorts between content and marketing automation.

Content Marketing and Marketing Automation are in many ways continuations of the same process: whereas content marketing focuses on getting visitors to your website, and engaging them meaningfully in the web environment, marketing automation is about lead nurturing- where the end goal is to hand over hot(ter) opportunities to sales. These two systems can reinforce one another to help your site generate revenue. Below are some key points to keep in mind when considering integration.

The 5 Worst Mistakes When Selecting a CMS

So your business has finally taken the crucial step of selecting a Content Management System. Perhaps it’s your first CMS, or perhaps you’re ready for the switch from a solution that just isn’t cutting it anymore. You want to get the most value you can out of your solution. You’re probably making lists of expectations, or products to compare. As you go through your selection process, don’t get overly wrapped up in processes only to lose sight of the bigger picture. Take a step back and make sure to avoid these pitfalls.

Top Exec: Why separate "known" and "anonymous" visitors, when they're really on a spectrum?

In 2010, the team at Hippo CMS sat together in a room and decided to scrap portlet technology from our roadmap entirely. We knew portals—we had worked with them for years—and recognized that the technology was outdated and had served its purpose.

After all, portals were invented to help bring legacy applications to the web in a secure way. But nowadays more and more business applications are exposing their services as REST APIs, allowing us and others to build new interfaces on top of their existing backends. We already saw that the era of the portal was ending around 2010, so we decided to drop the technology entirely, focus on personalisation and add that into our standard web delivery stack.

Avoiding Pitfalls: Common Mistakes Made When Implementing A CMS For Your Website

By using a Content Management System (CMS) web application; the creation, customization, and management of your website information becomes faster and much easier. You no longer need to master the web programming language just to be able to edit, preview, and publish content and web elements to your blog such as texts, animations, images, and video content. That is why a lot of businesses are now considering the need to leverage a CMS solution for their online presence.

I've been a big fan of Digital Clarity Group ever since they formed. There are some amazing people working for DCG and the work they put out is quite frankly spectacular. Last year they put out their 2013 North America Guide to Service Providers for Web Content and Customer Experience Management and I was blown away. Many of the answers to the questions I'm often asked about various agencies and integrators are in this guide.
