Every few years, I've been forced to reexamine the value of the comment section for my websites. Years ago, when socPub was CMS Report our comment were wide open where everyone could leave a comment. The end result were a lot of great comments but eventually the bots and spammers hit us hard. While using comment fighting services like Akismet and Mollom helped, a lot of comment spam still managed to make into our pages.

Appropriately, for the wildly popular CMS, it all started with a blog post. Way back in January 2003, Matt Mullenweg, the co-creator of WordPress, wrote a short blog on his website, lamenting the lack of updates from his preferred blogging software, b2/cafelog.

Despite becoming increasingly popular since its release in 2001, b2/cafelog’s developer stopped maintaining the software in 2002, seemingly disappearing completely from all community forums.

If you are familiar with SEO practices then you know how important high-quality content is. In that case, you are also aware that it is no small feat. What you come up with has to be something unique, that one has written before, and it needs to have a strong strategy behind it. Ongoing digital transformation has helped leading German publisher Axel Springer become one of Europe’s largest media companies, with almost three-quarters of revenue coming from digital channels.

“Only 10 years ago, just 1% of Axel Springer’s revenue and profits could be attributed to digital,” said Dr. Andreas Wiele, member of the board and president of classified media at Axel Springer. “Today, more than 65% of our revenue and more than 80% of our profits are digital.”
