eGroupWare user manual available in print

"From mid December 2007 on, you can get a printed User Manual in English
language, beside the German one available since some years.

The User Manual Version 1.4 contains several descriptions of
the eGroupWare applications and one Chapter about "getting started" in
the popular eGroupWare modules. The manual has 180 pages and nearly 110
colored screenshots."

XOOPS: New Community Initiatives

Editor's Note: As of this writing an XOOPS post on two community initiatives is showing more HTML code than text. Since I'm not sure when they'll get the code/editor/content thing straigten up, I've placed an editied post below.

The XOOPS Foundation
is very proud to announce the support of two very inspiring community initiatives: the recently opened XOOPSDOCS.org and the brand new XOOPSADDONS.org!

Joomla Team Blog: New Joomla! 1.5 Installation Manual

"It’s always a great pleasure to be able to announce something new and today it is my particular pleasure to announce a new piece of documentation for the upcoming Joomla! 1.5 release. The User Documentation Team has just finished writing a comprehensive guide to installing Joomla!"

OSC: Massachusetts ends ODF Advocacy

"On August 1, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts changed the Enterprise Technical Reference Policy to include Microsoft's Office Open XML format along with OASIS' OpenDocument Format. I believe Massachusetts made the only defensible choice possible."

Joomla! Developer Network: Writing the Fine Manuals

"The funny thing about documentation is that few people appreciate it when it’s there, but everybody notices when it isn’t. At our recent Summit it was a real pleasure to be amongst people who are just as keen as me to make good documentation happen. Inevitably there was a lot of discussion about the road to the 1.5 Stable release and the Doc Working Group will be playing an important role as both user and developer communities are in need of good quality documentation on what is without doubt the most significant release in the history of the project. We also touched on future versions of Joomla! and how the Developer Doc Team could be more closely involved in the development process so as to avoid the “catch-up” race that we have always seemed to be involved in with releases so far."

Justin Dolske: We shred every day

Just for some weekend fun.  Nothing to do with CMS but a whole lot of information on paper shredding.

Erring on the side of security can sometimes be a little frustrating…

A few months ago I junked my aging paper shredder. I had purchased it for about $25 some years prior, but it had become rather cranky and instead of shredding paper it mostly just… mangled. When it wasn’t busy jamming itself. So, I appended a “buy new shredder” task to my To Do List and diverted various home office trash to a To Be Shredded Pile… Paid bills, legal documents, bank statements, etc. [No juicy secrets here, I’m afraid. Just a sensible precaution against identity theft.]

Larry Garfield: The documentation problem

"Over on the Planet, someone posted a link to a budding Drupal user who was having the usual first-time-user troubles. "I want to do X, Y, Z, but I can't figure out how and no one will tell me, help!" Been there, done that, I suppose. But how can that be if there's so much Drupal documentation? Simple. The questions most people ask are the hardest to answer, because there isn't just one kind of documentation."
