MicroCyte: A new low cost CMS
We have just recently released our new Content Management System called MicroCyte. MicroCyte is a inexpensive light-weight CMS which 'layers' over the top of a website. The developer builds their site how they want it to look and work and then tells MicroCyte which areas of the site to content manage. The content editing side of the CMS is front end driven so the CMS user effectively uses the site as they normally would and then edits the content, images, etc as they see it in the page.
This approach is good for both ease of use and ease of development and means a relatively non-technical developer can add full content management to the site they are building in a matter of hours. It also means that development is driven by the look, design and functionality of the site rather than by being limited by what the CMS can and can't do.
MicroCyte is aimed at small to medium sized websites where light weight content management facilities are required, but we have found that the approach can scale quite nicely and there is enough functionality to cover quite complex website builds. There is no backend database to worry about and MicroCyte is based in PHP so getting started with MicroCyte requires nothing more than a WAMP or MAMP install and a little bit of time to read the documentation. There is also plenty of help on the website, including screencasts, how-tos and a technical blog!
