Joomla 1.0 End of Life

Some great discussion over at JoomlaTools about when the end of the life cycle should be for Joomla 1.0.

Joomla 1.5

Joomla 1.5 is a great CMS and should be focused on exclusively now for the future.

However many people are afraid of the upgrade process and keeping their Joomla 1.0, so I feel a legacy section should be kept to keep classic Joomla 1 components and plugins for people who would still require them.

Perhaps, some policy of supporting an archive of components/plugins for one year after the End of Life for a particular version of Joomla! is in order.  By archive, I mean no support (including security patches) provided, but remains available for download.

I see this type of healthy debate going on in other open source projects too.  Though, it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue for the Wordpress community.  Perhaps that might be because of their commitment for a lenghty support of their 2.0 version.
